It took some motivation, but I’ve finished 2 books in the last few days with one more in the making. I’ve photographed the first two below.
In the top book, I tried a new binding stitch called ‘Coptic’. It’s a style derived from Africa and is special because it allows the book to lie flat while open.
The second book is a stitch I found in a great ‘How to Make Books’ book that I was given as a gift. It was fun and easy to make! I hope my sister likes it.
A new Coptic-bound book. My first try at it, I think it was pretty successful. I’m giving this book away as a birthday gift- I hope they enjoy it!
Front and back panels have been covered with fine-print paper and the book is filled with blank paper for sketching, journaling, or list-making.
Something new for my sister. Suede exterior, lined with a fine-print paper, filled with paper for journaling.

Last week I decided to leave my job. It’s a good thing. So, this week I’ve prescribed myself a vacation and I vow to start making more things. While on vacation (lasting from Jan 19-27), here are some of the things I’ve done/ plan to do:
- Make a hand-made book (check)
- Walk across Brooklyn Bridge (check)
- Visit Brooklyn Botanic Gardens (check)
- Laugh more (check)
- Work out with intention (check)
- Sleep in (check)
- See the Bodies Exhibit (check- thanks!)
- Stay up extra late
- Visit some good friends in Philly
- Go to a museum
- Dance
- ENJOY
If you have any other suggestions, let me know!
